Indian Mountain School HISTORY

  • Indian Mountain School, originally named The Riggs School, was founded by Groton and Harvard graduate Francis Behn Riggs in 1916. When it bore the name The Riggs School, it was primarily an agricultural high school for boys. In 1922 The Riggs School changed its name to Indian Mountain School and transitioned to an secondary school admissions preparatory school. In 2003, Indian Mountain School merged with the primary school The Town Hill School and began to serve primary children as well as pre-secondary students.

  • Outdoor Adventure and Education
    The Outdoor Adventure and Education program (OAE) allows students to explore natural environments surrounding the campus through activities such as camping, hiking, ropes courses, rock climbing, and skiing.
  • Celebrating Diversity
    Indian Mountain School aims to instill in students the value of diversity and the appreciation of different backgrounds through discussion, presentations, service trips, and volunteering opportunties.
