Lawrenceville School HISTORY

  • Lawrenceville School was first known as the Maidenhead Academy at the time of its founding in 1810. It was initially a boys-only school led by Presbyterian clergyman Isaac Van Arsdale Brown. The Maidenhead Academy was renamed in 1883 with a significant donation from the John Cleve Green Foundation. After more than a decade of deliberation, Lawrenceville School decided to admit girls in order to transition into a coeducational school in 1985.
