Rectory School HISTORY

  • Rectory School was founded with the purpose of preparing boys for secondary school by the Reverend and Mrs. Frank Bigelow in 1921. The first classes were held in the Christ Episcopal Church in Pomfret, C.T., and began its classes with just 6 students. John Bigelow, one of the first students of the school and the son of the Reverend and Mrs. Frank Bigelow, became headmaster of the school in 1937 and instituted the Individualized Instruction Program, or the IPP, in 1937 to serve the dyslexic students of the school.
