FESSENDEN HISTORY

  • The Fessenden School was founded by the latin teacher Frederick Fessenden and his wife, Emma Hart Fessenden in 1903. The Fessenden School’s founders initially received encouragement from Dr. Harlan P. Amen, the headmaster of Exeter Academy. It was founded with the mission to provide rigorous academic training as well as the cultivation of the whole child for boys preparing to enter secondary schools. Due to its early connection with Phillips Exeter Academy, Fessenden School was known as an early feeder school to Phillips Exeter Academy.
