The Fessenden School’s founders initially received encouragement from Dr. Harlan P. Amen, the headmaster of Exeter Academy. It was founded with the mission to provide rigorous academic training as well as the cultivation of the whole child for boys preparing to enter secondary schools. Due to its early connection with Phillips Exeter Academy, Fessenden School was known as an early feeder school to Phillips Exeter Academy.
